Design look energy supply for transportation

The need to control polluting atmospheric emissions and the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 are a clear incitement for transportation to adopt clean energy sources. Current CO2 emissions regulations have set a goal for vehicles to generate no more than 95g/km by 2020. Moreover, installing solar panel roofs on vehicles earns makers eco-credits. It thus provides a complementary source of energy for vehicles:

+ Savings in electricity consumption when parked (functionalities in sleep-mode and battery self-discharge)
+ Interior preconditioning operations that don’t impact on the battery
+ Reduction in CO2 emissions
+ LiFi reception in transport

Making onboard functionalities autonomous

Integrated photovoltaic surfaces allow to for the powering of functionalities without needing to drain the vehicle’s battery:

Ongoing project: Solar Smart Mobility

Launched in 2017 by a consortium backed by the French environment and energy management agency ADEME (Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie), the Solar Smart Mobility project has set itself the goal of creating a brand new branch of photovoltaics on supple substrates aimed at the transportation market.
The consortium is made up of three French industrial companies – Armor, Vision Systems and SUNPARTNER – and its objective is to develop solar energy production solutions that are integrated into vehicles. Without impacting on aesthetics, their consumption of fossil fuels as well their production of toxic emissions are reduced and their windowed sections enable smart functionalities in vehicles via solar power.
